This Cartoon Cake Is Real, But Try Telling Your Brain So

This Melbourne baker’s amazing ‘cartoon cake’ looks so real he had to post another video cutting it to prove it wasn’t a drawing

There are a lot of food trends on TikTok, but our favorite right now is the one where people make cartoon cakes: they’re real cakes with real ingredients but decorated in such a way that it looks like a cartoon drawing.

There are no drawing tricks here. Just smart use of pastel colored fondant and lining everything in black to mimic a cartoon.

One person who tried this trend went viral with her amazing cake video that has everyone gobsmacked. It’s the most delicious (if we could eat it) optical illusion ever seen!

Melbourne cake artist Tigga McCormack thought she’d try the trend with some red velvet cake scraps and has since had over 9 million views on her video showing how she makes her cartoon cake.

We think a lot of those views are from people watching it over and over again because they can’t believe it’s real. That’s definitely what we’ve been doing for the last 15 minutes.

As we watched it, we kept waiting for a cartoon anvil to topple over, or for some shameless cartoon figure to run by and steal it!

Tigga wrote in the caption of her post that the end result exceeded even her own expectations. She also said in her comments that it was a huge compliment for people to accuse her of using a cartoon.

“You can’t fool us. You just put a cartoon cake on there,” wrote one commenter, while another said: “My brain hurts, did you change it to cartoon cake or is it real, can’t tell.”

Another commenter wrote: “nah you have to cut it to make me think it’s real” even though Tigga obviously did it there in the video.

So Tigga made another video showing her cutting the cake as proof, with a cheeky caption reading “Real enough for you?”

Yes, it’s definitely won the cartoon cake trend, and we know it’s real, but even when it’s on the plate cut into two pieces, our brains keep saying, “I want to eat it! But it’s a cartoon. But I want to eat it! But it’s a caricature…
