There is corruption and there is corruption: the Al-Saud take the cake

Let’s admit it in advance. Corruption is everywhere in the world. In the United States, big donors give a lot of money or “black money” to politicians to legislate and change laws in their favor. Still, we are lucky in the United States to be able to speak out against corruption and not face prison terms or dismemberment. This is far from the case in Saudi Arabia, where such criticism of the Al-Sauds, the ruling tribe, could get you killed or landed in jail.

In Saudi Arabia, the king can take whatever he wants from the national treasury. You might think how can this be a country? Sounds more like a family business or ranch. And you would be right, as the Al-Saud, a tribe of more than 20,000, see the country as their own: their ancestor Abdul-Aziz seized the land through treachery using knives and proclaiming it his kingdom in September 1932. And as the Al-Sauds say, others could have done the same, but they didn’t. It’s ours. End of story!

In Islam, corruption is abhorred like a cancer that should not be tolerated. You might ask, don’t they have a constitution? They would reply, yes our constitution is the Holy Quran and they would just read the words on our flag. So what does the Qur’an say about such behavior?

All non-renewable resources, which would include oil and natural gas, belong to the people of this and future generations. As oil runs out, it must be transformed or used in a way that provides the same benefit to everyone, whether they live today or thousands of years from now. Well, Saudi Arabia’s income and wealth is essentially derived from oil, so the Al-Saud shouldn’t enjoy special access to oil wealth where the Quran is concerned. It gets worse. In Islam corruption is abhorred like a cancer that should not be tolerated and there is more. Islam condemns ostentatious lifestyles and recommends modesty in all things, and yet the Al-Sauds with their palaces and yachts, gold furniture, international travel with more than a hundred suitcases in a fleet of a hundred cars, are they make fun of the life that Islam preaches. .

But it does not end with corruption. Genocide in Yemen, human rights abuses, torture and murder: remember the cold-blooded dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi. And yet the Al-Saud claim to be the custodians of Islam! And the United States accepts Saudi Arabia as an ally and in turn supports the Al-Saud!

It is time for all Muslims and Americans to call on the Al-Saud and Saudi Arabia. Muslims around the world should denounce Al-Saud’s behavior that contradicts the Qur’an and everything Islam preaches. Americans should demand that President Biden practice what he preaches: treat Mohammad bin Salman like the outcast he is and not shield him from Jamal Khashoggi murder lawsuits.
