But the new phone books are here and that means two new phone books, one from the western US and the other from tele connect aka telecom USA, over the next few weeks, more than 300,000 of each will be delivered to homes and businesses in central Iowa. While neither Us West nor Telecom will reveal ad revenue from Yellow Page customers, both say business is booming. In fact, the competition has created bigger books packed with more features from the publisher’s point of view *** than the white and yellow pages, and we welcome the competition. Over the past two years, we’ve seen a steady growth of *** in our product and added features that make it the go-to this year. Us West has added yellow highlights to white page business numbers. They have also included *** voter registration form. Telecom has added white highlights to its Yellow Pages ads and is introducing *** a full thumbnail version of the regular phone book. The shortened book is aimed at crowded business desks and cell phone users. Despite the gimmicks, business owners still aren’t sure two phone books are any better than 12 years ago, we profiled Mark Zimmerman at Felix and Oscar Pizzeria at the time. I wasn’t crazy about buying another yellow page ad in *** new phone book, but after *** two year trial with *** different numbers in western US. It’s a damn case where the two books, I think, have really fractionalized the market and it’s a damn case where if you don’t put an ad in both, you’re going to lose business and from a cost standpoint, all you’ve done is double one of your business expenses. . Despite some issues, both the TV Hookup Book and the American Western Book are here to stay as long as patrons can find a place to put them.
