ReFood’s eco-friendly solution has not only eliminated food waste ending up in landfills, it has helped dramatically reduce Marmaduke’s waste management costs and also means it’s participating in lighting homes through from National Gas Grid.

With best-in-class products at its core, from wild-farmed flour, direct-trade specialty beans, and even cleaning products chosen for their green credentials, the foodservice business wanted to address an often-overlooked area. : the inevitable food waste that arises from daily operations.

Whether it’s shells, bones and gristle, spoiled produce or leftover dishes, waste is common in food service, but its environmental consequences are significant. And without a solution to manage this waste, the vast majority end up in the residual waste stream and, by proxy, in landfills.

Rethink food waste

Enter ReFood and your eco-friendly AD solution.

Working with cafes, restaurants, hotels and other food businesses across the UK, ReFood collects over 400,000 tonnes of waste each year, recycling it into renewable energy and bio-fertiliser at its anaerobic digestion (AD) sites in Dagenham, Doncaster and Widnes.

The AD process captures the biogas produced during the natural degradation of food.

This biogas can be burned to produce renewable electricity or processed and injected directly into the national gas grid.

The residue left over from the AD process can be used as a proven nutrient-dense biofertilizer, reintroducing beneficial nutrients to the beginning of the food supply chain.
