Summer programming is underway and will last until August 8. Explore the theme of the week through stories, crafts, games, and more. Spaces are limited for some events, call or come register to secure a spot. Call 336-789-5108. The time is:

• Mondays at 6 pm – teens, ages 13-17. This week we will be making a watercolor tissue paper craft. Tissue paper will be used to create a background and an ocean themed silhouette placed on top. Pizza will be provided, please bring your own beverage.

• Tuesday at 2 pm – children from 8 to 12 years old; Learn about octopuses and how they can fit and slide into spaces of any size when making Octopus Slime.

• Wednesdays at 10:30 am – Toddler Time for 2 and 3 year olds; This week is the wet and wild water week, we will have a slide and a children’s pool. Put on your suit, bring your sunscreen and a towel.

• Thursday at 9:30 am – Book Babies for children from birth to 2 years; This week is the wet and wild water week, we will have a slide and a children’s pool. Put on your suit, bring your sunscreen and a towel.

• Thursdays at 11 am – Preschool Story Time – ages 4-5; This week is the wet and wild water week, we will have a slide and a children’s pool. Put on your suit, bring your sunscreen and a towel.

• Friday at 9 am – Adults, 18+; Seven Wonders of the Seas – Learn about some of the wonders of the seas.

• Friday at 1 pm – Family movie series, popcorn and water will be available. Feel free to bring your own snacks. This week, we will be looking at Ponyo.

Book bag raffle. This summer, every time you check out books, put your name in the box at the checkout counters to win a backpack full of school supplies. The draw will be on Friday, August 5.

top reader. The best reader of the summer, the one who turns in the most reading logs, with the most amount of time read, will win a Kindle. This contest is for young people from 8 to 18 years old. Turn in all reading logs by August 5th.

Surry Community College offers a fun, free English as a Second Language (ESL) class at the Mount Airy Public Library Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 1:30 pm Anyone interested should contact Jennifer Pardue at 336-336. 386-3674.

Hooked – Join our knitting and crochet club, every Wednesday at 3 pm Bring your own yarn and do the group project or bring your own project to work on.

Tai Chi has returned to the library. Join us every Wednesday and Friday at 10 am This class is beneficial for those with limited mobility.

The Community Book Club meets the fourth Wednesday of the month at 1 pm In August we will be reading and discussing Elegy for Iris by John Bayley. This is the story of his wife, Iris Murdoch, who developed Alzheimer’s and how she coped. We will also meet to see the movie based on the book.

Pages and Petticoats Book Club: Meets the last Tuesday of the month at 6 pm In August, we will be reading Southern Comfort by Fern Michaels.

Classic Movie on Monday, July 25 at 5:30pm to watch JAWS, if you dare. “We’re going to need a bigger boat.” Popcorn and water are provided.
