Small Business Saturday 2022 – Newport Stores Loved by Customers

TODAY is Small Business Saturday, which is a campaign to encourage people to shop local and support their small business community.

In support of the campaign, we asked our readers what small businesses they loved in the region and they didn’t disappoint.

Independent stores offer customers unique and original products that cannot be found in chain stores.

With Christmas fast approaching, you might fancy heading to some of the independent shops in and around Newport.

Here at The Argus we have put together a list of our readers’ favorite small businesses.

Hot Bakery:

For those who love freshly baked food, Hot Bread Shop may tickle your fancy.

Patrons can feast on fresh rolls, baguettes, salads, baked potatoes, and breakfast items.

If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll be happy to know that the shop also sells pastries and tarts.

Located at 420 Chepstow Road, the store is open Monday through Saturday, 8 am to 4 pm.

Risca Pine Center:

With Christmas fast approaching, this gift shop might give you some great ideas.

Risca Pine Center sells a variety of different home decor gifts, fragrances, and accessories.

Located at 24 Tredegar Street, the store is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

The wardrobe:

Established in 1987, The Wardrobe sells designer clothing for men.

If you’re heading to the store on Friars Street, make sure you don’t miss the shop as it’s quite small but packed with great clothes.

Newport Mascots:

Newport Pets is an independent family owned store located in Pontfaen, Newport.

The family business opened in 2017 and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

Square Bar:

Bar Piazza has long been a favorite of many Newportonians as one of their favorite independent shops.

This family-run coffee shop and deli in John Frost Square gives Newport a taste of Italy.

Serving authentic Italian coffee, Mediterranean dishes and cocktails, Bar Piazza has been a part of the city center for many years.

Beth’s Pies:

Beths Bakes was born out of Beth baking for her family and friends from her home kitchen.

In 2018 Beths Bakes opened at 36, Church Road, Newport.

Patrons can enjoy freshly baked brownies, blondies, variety boxes and celebration cakes.

Gourmet Grazing:

Gourmet Grazing in Newport may be the answer to your lunch deliberations today.

Located on Alderney Street, Newport, this restaurant serves delicious nutritious dishes.

Customers can choose from a selection of different breakfasts, wraps, sandwiches, health boxes and burgers.
