Shutters of Basque bakeries and cafeterias after 7 years

It’s always a surprise to discover that your favorite coffee is gone forever, seemingly without warning. In our weekly reports, we at Nosh seek to track all notable East Bay restaurant closures. Since, unlike restaurant openings, these closings often happen in silence, your tips and emails are what keep this column going. You are always welcome at [email protected]

Basque Bakery Café Danville

Thanks to Beyond The Creek for the news that quaint Basque Boulangerie bakery and cafe has closed its East Bay location within the historic Danville Hotel property. The Sonoma-based, family-owned bakery business is known for its notable French and sourdough breads, country-style cafe fare, and European-inflected sweets like Beehive Cake.

The Danville branch was open for seven years; the Sonoma location, opened in 1994, remains open and busy. Basque Boulangerie Cafe Danville was at 411 Hartz Ave. in Danville.

Have no fear, Emeryville and local fans: Honor’s shutdown starting December 3 is just temporary, although it will be a minute. The reliable neighborhood bar and restaurant (with the COVID-friendly tented outdoor parking patio so popular in recent years) has announced a large-scale kitchen and property remodel that will significantly expand its outdoor offerings. .

People can look forward to an enclosed garden seating area, outdoor bar, fire pits and more menu flexibility once the renovation is complete, which is expected to take four to six months.

Hang in there, folks (and maybe take your bucks to nearby Rudy’s Can’t Fail or Doyle Street Cafe for casual American dining, or Wolfhound and Prizefighter for those drinks). Honor Kitchen & Cocktails is at 1411 Powell St. in Emeryville.
