I’m not going to bore you with an unnecessary introduction about how we all love to travel (we do!), and that our favorite destination (Japan!) has finally opened its doors to us. You’re here because you have a trip planned and want to downsize your skincare and makeup kit, or you just love small, travel-sized things. So let’s get straight to the point: here are the products to create the ultimate travel beauty kit!
shu uemura cleansing oil individual sachets
I cannot live without my shu uemura cleansing oil and there really is no real replacement for it. But I really don’t want to take a big bottle abroad. I found out that the brand has individual sachets: each packet serves two uses. These envelopes are really convenient and make it easy to plan how many to take depending on the length of your trip. They are not for sale, but you can go to any shu uemura counter or boutique and kindly ask for samples. Even better if you’re an existing customer (which you probably are!) and jump at the chance to buy a bottle of your favorite cleaner and then request samples for your trip. You will probably get more.
Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum
This boosting serum is, for me, the best skin care you can have with you when you travel. It softens and soothes the skin and any inflammation, and can also heal damaged skin. This makes it ideal for use on a plane and in cooler, drier climates like Japan. It’s wonderful that it comes in smaller bottles including 15ml ($33) and 30ml ($65). Find them at Sephora.sg.
clé de peau beauté Key Radiance Care Introductory Set (Softener)
This dream starter set features the best in skincare from luxury Japanese beauty brand, clé de peau beauté. Once you try their smoothing foaming cleanser, it’s hard to want to use anything else to wash your face with (not to be confused with shu uemura cleansing oil, which I use to remove my makeup at the end of the day). This set also includes the amazing Fortifying Protective Cream and Intensive Fortifying Cream in 12g sizes, great for carry-on luggage and perfect for winter climates.
You can buy this set for $205 at all clé de peau beauté boutiques and counters, and at Sephora.
Fresh Color & Care Lip Trio
Every Christmas, I look forward to Fresh Beauty’s limited-edition skincare sets. There’s always a value set with a range of lip treatments in smaller sizes that are perfect for travel. This year’s includes the classic Sugar Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy, the Rosé version that adds a hint of pink, and the Mint Rush that feels fresh and tingling. A full-size Sugar Lip Treatment Advanced Therapy retails for $39 at Sephora; This trio set is priced at $43, wow, good value! It is available starting October 20 at fresh.com/sg.
Chanel No1 De Chanel Red Camellia Revitalizing Serum-In-Mist
A facial mist is a great skincare to take on a plane or while traveling in dry climates like Japan. This mist is a lightweight serum that can be used under or over makeup to refresh skin and hydrate when needed. It is part of Chanel’s No1 line that is formulated with ingredients derived from red camellia, which prevent and correct the signs of aging,
Get it for $125 (50 ml) in the Chanel E-Shop at sg-eshop.chanel.com.
Gucci Baume Nourrissant Universel, Nourishing Balm
Multi-use items are always great for travel, and even better when they come in the most beautiful packaging. This is a fragrance-free balm that can be used on the skin, lips, hands, nails, cuticles, elbows, and knees (basically everywhere except the eye area). Soothe and hydrate dry areas and leave a feeling of comfort with its 100% natural origin formula, which includes a highly concentrated blend of botanical and natural oils such as jojoba, castor and black rose oils, as well as shea butter. Put it in your bag and take it out if only to use the mirror to check your teeth.
$95, available at the new Gucci Beauty boutique at ION Orchard #B2-44/46.
Ultra Violette Glow & Go Trio Set (Limited Holiday Edition)
We especially love the holiday season because all the limited edition miniatures are released, like this Ultra Violette set. It has our favorite Queen Screen and the lip balm in a new plum shade. Once you try the texture of Ultra Violette Queen Screen Sunscreen, you won’t want to wear anything else.
It’s $58 at Sephora.sg and I suggest getting it now before it’s gone.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Mini Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette
The full size version of this palette is beautiful; the colors are great for creating both natural and glamorous looks. The mini version ($51) has all the key shades adapted from the main palette, but in a fun size. It’s just missing a brush, which is a small compromise I’d make for such a slim profile.
Sigma Beauty Essential Travel Brush Set
This amazing brush set has everything you need for a full face of makeup. The brushes have shorter handles and all fit beautifully in the included sturdy brush cup. Best of all, these brushes work just as well as their standard size counterparts. It is priced at US$86 and is available at sigmabeauty.com.
Muji Portable Eyelash Curler
This eyelash curler is flat and easy to fit in any bag and carry. Also, it works very, very well; better than traditional makeup artist brand eyelash curlers, in fact. Just take a look at our review here. Get it on Shopee for $7.30. Very good value for money for something that works so well.
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Dip Clip-On Universal Lip Highlighter
How cute is this lip gloss? It’s in a small clip-on package that you can clip to your clothing or bag and really take it anywhere with ease. We also love Fenty Beauty’s lip products; They are moisturizing and very flattering when worn. This one is in the popular shade, Fu$$Y, which works on all skin tones, the way Fenty did.
Get it at Sephora.sg for $33.
Lush Bath Bombs
When I go on vacation with the kids, one small way to make it special is to bring some fantastic bath bombs from Lush. Kids love them! They smell great, are fun to watch when they bubble up in the bathtub, and most importantly, I can use them in a bathtub (we don’t have one at home in Singapore). Considering that most of the households in Singapore do not put bathtubs in their bathrooms, the only time we can enjoy Lush bath bombs is in a hotel.
For this next trip, I chose Unicorn Poop ($17), Groovy Kind of Love ($18), and Peachy ($16)! All of these are available in Lush stores and online at exuberantg.com.
Aesop’s Arrival Travel Kit
This Aesop Classics Travel Kit is always on my list of travel beauty must-haves. It includes the brand’s best-selling Rind Concentrate shampoo, conditioner, body balm, and geranium leaf body cleanser, all of which smell fabulous. I like to take the body balm with me when I leave the hotel; It’s great for moisturizing and soothing dry skin, which often happens every time I’m in Japan because the air is much drier than Singapore.
It is available for US$36.92 (approx. SG$53) at net-a-porter.com.
Adult Alchemist Travel Kit
Here’s another awesome kit from NET-A-PORTER. The Grown Alchemist Travel Kit has all the bath essentials you need (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion), plus some amazing extras: face wash, scrub, day cream, and hand cream. The day cream in particular smells heavenly; It has camellia and rosehip oils to hydrate and soothe, and absorbs quickly into the skin leaving a silky veil of moisture. The tubes are easy to transport (put them in your bag or even your pocket) and squeeze on the go whenever and wherever you feel dry. Your skin will thank you.
We love that the Grown Alchemist Kit also comes with a black travel bag that fits everything (and more!) inside. It really is the icing on the cake in this package.
Priced at US$67.95 (approx. $96) at net-a-porter.com.
Dior has some of the most beautiful fragrance bottles and scents, and fans of these products know that they come in various sizes. The larger 125ml bottles are for the home dresser, but if you store them in 40ml sizes you can easily take them on the go. Our favorites are the scents “Lucky” (with notes of lily-of-the-valley and white flowers) and “Ambre Nuit” (an oriental-floral fragrance); both are best sellers and will keep you smelling divine wherever you go. The 40ml bottles are priced at $180 each and are available at shop.dior.com.sg.
Another thing to look forward to is Dior’s limited edition Fragrance Discovery Set ($335). It includes 10 of the brand’s iconic fragrances in 7.5ml formats and is presented in a beautiful keepsake box. It has also just been released and we anticipate it to be sold out soon, so if you want it, don’t hesitate and buy it now.
This works Choose Sleep Duo spray
This is one of the best investments you can make for your trip; It is a set of two products: a roll-on and a pillow spray. The roll-on is really useful when you are in a crowd or in a place where bad odors abound. Take this out quickly, run it over the pulse points, and breathe into your hands. It will help you not want to throw up due to unpleasant odors (such as body odor or garbage). The pillow spray is self explanatory. Spray on your hotel pillow and you’ll smell good, which means better sleep. The Choose Sleep Duo spray is priced at $22 and is available at Sephora. Plus, there’s a Christmas edition of this set that’s essentially the exact same products, but priced less than $18. Get it here.
You can also consult the Stress Check Mood Manager of the same brand. You can spray this on clothing (not silk or leather), your skin, or your surroundings. The scent will help you relax and ultimately improve your mood. It smells like a comforting spa, the good kind. Get it at Sephora for $29.
