Most people are aware of the benefits of a personal health check and will not think it unusual to have one carried out periodically. In the same way as an individual will benefit from a personal check so a business will also benefit from an early diagnosis of potential problems. What‘s the difference? As with the open-source website editors, it gets a little confusing. Both LibreOffice and NeoOffice run on the Mac and both are open-source. The interface of both look almost identical at first glance, and they both share largely the same features. So why the redundancy and which should you choose? Well, while LibreOffice runs on both Mac and Windows, NeoOffice is Mac only. It is a special branch or fork of OpenOffice that was developed to quash some of the bugs in the Mac version of OpenOffice. So I would say, if you‘re going to choose one, choose NeoOffice.
Now that we have some test dummy data on our spreadsheet we can go ahead and reformat the column widths. You can add more data if you would like or even use an already existing spreadsheet. The choice is completely up to you; however the steps to reformat the column widths are all the same as you will soon see. The next step is to highlight the columns that you want to reformat. To reformat the columns we are using in our example, using the month names, you need to click on the column header labeled ”A”. Now hold down the ”shift” key and click the column header labeled ”L”. In other words you are clicking the first column and the last column. If you chose to use your own spreadsheet, your columns that you use may be different. You could also click on column header ”A” and holding down the left mouse button, drag the cursor over top of the final column, in this case ”L”, and let go of the mouse button. Either way is fine.

A second option that is available is the Update Changes option. This function simply allows you to define how often the spreadsheet changes are updated. The most common element users use is the Update Every 15 minutes. What this does is to force a save and filter through the data to all the users. One point to consider is that if you workbook is relatively large and you are working on a slow computer you may want to increase that time to 30 minutes. The last area of concern is the Save Changes function. This defines whose changes will override who‘s. There are two options available which say, Ask me Which Changes Win and The Changes Being Saved Win. Which option you choose really depends on the type of workbook you have created.
Also, just imagine the amount of paper you would be using all year round just to store all of those data and numbers. You can do Mother Nature a good turn by switching to using electronic spreadsheets instead of manual options. And if it is not the ease of use or the speed of the calculations that you are after, at least you would see the benefit of the automatic formatting features that come with any spreadsheet software. Now you can easily have very presentable spreadsheets done for you as you type your data inside the cells. You do not have to worry too much about the look of your spreadsheets, especially if you are presenting these to your clients. Businesses generally make extensive use of spreadsheets both in accounting and all other business fields. Being a numerically based system of analyzing information spreadsheets are used throughout every accounting function as the technique presents an ideal basis to maintain accuracy and automate the collection of financial information.
