Several bakeries on the Central Coast have special offers on holiday cakes. When we asked the locals where the best pies are, one name came up time and time again, Gizdich Ranch. Located on the northeast edge of Watsonville, the Patisserie offers a variety of berry pies, as well as a seasonal fall pumpkin pie. You can pick up their pastries fresh or frozen. Moving north from Gizdich, in the city of Santa Cruz, is Buttery Bakery. In addition to its custom cakes offered year-round, the bakery also offers cakes ranging from traditional apple to strawberry rhubarb. They also have an online ordering setup. If you’re up for a short road trip, there’s Swanton Berry Farm on Highway 1 near Davenport. The roadside cake shack is rustic and in addition to a variety of cakes they have a small gift shop and you can even pick your own berries. (The berries depend on the season). In Monterey County, The Farm, just outside of Salinas off Highway 68, is a local favorite. During the holiday months, they are a cake factory. They bake their pies every Friday, but also keep a stock of frozen pies for sale. They offer fruity and tasty cakes. In Salinas, Emma’s Bakery and Cafe also offers seasonal pastries. They offer classics and also a unique pumpkin cheesecake. Meanwhile, in Sand City, Sweet Elena’s artisan bakery and cafe has pies ranging from apple pie to lemon pie. They offer a pre-order system for holiday pickup so your cake is fresh and ready. In San Benito County, the restaurant at Casa De Fruta off Highway 152 has classic and seasonal pastries like pecans and pumpkin. Finally, another bakery that may be a bit off the beaten path but worth the trip, is Suncoast Organic Farm. It is located southeast of Hollister, but offers not only pastries but also cinnamon rolls, Italian biscotti, different types of bread, and even a full Thanksgiving menu.
