Local Dog Bakery Donates Thanksgiving Meals For Dogs For Shelter Dogs

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and during the Thanksgiving holiday many local shelters help those in need by providing hot Thanksgiving meals to families or individuals in need of a Thanksgiving meal.

However, we often forget about the dogs that spend Thanksgiving in animal shelters.

Well, a local bakery makes it a mission not to forget about the shelter dogs during the holiday season.

“We began offering safe dog-friendly Thanksgiving meals on demand in 2020. Over the next year, we frequently attended Humane Society events and a great relationship blossomed between the organizations,” said Alexandria Serra, owner and founder of Double Dog Dare Bakery (DDDB).

DDDB started as a side job in the kitchen of the Alexandria home in an attempt to provide her senior dog with homemade treats without all the junk found in processed dog treats/foods.

“The creativity and hard work of many people have made it what it is today,” Alexandria said.

“Come Thanksgiving 2021 rolled around, we ate a few extra meals, so we donated 12 meals to the Humane Society,” Alexandria said. “The Humane Society made an adorable video of their pups enjoying Thanksgiving food, and we were touched by how excited these pups were when they were offered real, wholesome food made with love.”

It was that adorable video that inspired Alexandra and her husband to create a “Donate a Meal to a Shelter Dog” option on their website that would allow customers to pay for a meal to be given to a shelter dog at various locations. shelters around the world. community.

“And the community reached out, providing food for every one of the shelter dogs that could have them (about 70). We donated time, prep, transportation, etc., and Pasoños chipped in a few dollars to pay for the ingredients,” Alexandria said.

This year, DDDB set itself the goal of feeding all 150 Humane Society dogs by offering the “Donate” option on its ordering website.

“In less than 8 hours, all the shelter meals were counted and customers were eager to buy more! We made 60 more meals available to donate, which were snatched up in less than 3 hours, and a kind donor also bought 80. It is the generosity of El Paso animal lovers that made this project possible,” Alexandria said.

DDDB plans to serve 150 meals to the El Paso Humane Society, 60 meals to the Animal Rescue League, and 80 meals to Law N Paws.

Meals include shredded chicken breast, carrots + honey, mashed potatoes + parsley, a pancake, and a festive cookie.

“We will prepare 950 meals in total, including 290 for the shelter babies,” Alexandria said.

DDDB is currently still looking for high school student volunteers to help cook on November 21 from 9am to 6pm.

The bakery is also looking for someone willing to donate a refrigerator to store food.
