Gingerbread Recipes to Help You with Christmas Sledding

The festive season seems to start earlier and earlier each year, and we’re very much on board with it this year! Since it’s the first “normal” Christmas season we’ve had in a couple of years, we’re looking forward to celebrating, and what better way to do it than with gingerbread! Now, we know gingerbread is a bit divisive – some people love it and some people hate it – but we’ve collected recipes from all over TikTok that are sure to impress everyone. We’ve even thrown a cocktail in there!

So without further ado, here are five of the best gingerbread recipes to try this festive season!

5 gingerbread recipes to try at home

Gingerbread cookies by Sophie Bakas

Makes 75 small cookies (depending on the size of the cookie cutter).

We have to start with a classic gingerbread man recipe, right? Sophie’s recipe has had nearly 18 million views on TikTok and is super simple. Definitely one to try this Christmas!

What you will need:

  • gingerbread men cookie cutters
  • 125 g unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 90g brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 egg
  • 370g all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


  1. Mix butter, brown sugar and honey.
  2. Add the egg.
  3. Add the dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt) to form a dough.
  4. Refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180° centigrade.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut the gingerbread cookies with the cookie cutters.
  7. Transfer the gingerbread cookies to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 180° for 9 minutes.
  9. Let the gingerbread cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Makes 8 mini loaves.

Sophie is back with another great gingerbread recipe, this time in bread form! These gingerbreads are perfect for entertaining or as a gift.

What you will need:

  • mini loaf pans
  • 260g all purpose flour
  • 10 g baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 40g brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 100 g whole milk (room temperature)
  • 2 eggs
  • 350g of honey


  1. Preheat the oven to 170° centigrade.
  2. Mix all the dry ingredients together, then add the milk, eggs, and honey until smooth.
  3. Pour batter into buttered loaf pans.
  4. Bake at 170 ° for 25 minutes (if you use a large loaf pan, bake for 50 minutes).
  5. When the gingerbread is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the loaf pans for about 10 minutes.
  6. Remove from the loaf pans onto a baking rack to cool completely.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a gingerbread house! Use Zaynab’s easy recipe to make your own from scratch and be a Chrissy hero. Make a few houses and you’ll have everything you need for a decorating competition!

What you will need:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 85 g softened butter
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup golden syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of water
  • Any lollipops and decorations you want to use.


  1. Put all the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix.
  2. Beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add the egg, golden syrup, and water and beat until combined.
  3. Pour in the dry ingredients and beat until just combined, then use your hands to form a dough.
  4. Cut the dough in two, cover it with cling film and leave it in the fridge for at least two hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180° centigrade.
  6. Stretch the dough between two pieces of parchment paper and cut out the shapes for your gingerbread house. You can use the leftover to make cookies.
  7. Bake in the oven for 8-12 minutes, until lightly browned around the edges.
  8. Allow the pieces to cool completely, and then use melted sugar to glue the sides together (be careful not to burn yourself!).
  9. Decorate as you want!

What you will need:

for the cake

  • 3 cake pans (about 15 cm in diameter)
  • 200ml buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 110ml melted butter
  • 110 ml of grapeseed oil
  • 60ml cold coffee
  • A small dash of vanilla extract
  • A small dash of maple syrup
  • 90 g apple compote
  • 420g all purpose flour
  • 200 g of brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

for the icing

  • 220 g soft butter (room temperature)
  • 450 g cream cheese (room temperature)
  • Pinch of salt
  • A splash of orange extract
  • 200g icing sugar


  1. Preheat the oven to 180° centigrade.
  2. In a bowl, combine the wet ingredients and mix. Set aside.
  3. Combine the dry ingredients and mix.
  4. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, using an electric mixer while pouring. Mix until there are no lumps.
  5. Pour the mixture evenly between the three matching cake pans.
  6. Cook for 30-35 minutes.
  7. Let the cakes cool completely and cut the rounded tops off the cakes so they are flat and even.
  8. For the glaze, add the butter to a bowl and mix with an electric mixer.
  9. Add cream cheese and continue mixing.
  10. Next, add a pinch of salt, a splash of orange extract, and a bit of sugar. Mix everything together. Gradually add the sugar and continue mixing.
  11. Start riding! Place one cake on a plate, add some frosting on top, and then place the second cake on top and add more frosting. Finally, add your third cake and use the rest of the frosting to cover the entire cake.
  12. Garnish with fresh raspberries or whatever you like!

The Cocktails Girls’ Gingerbread Mantini

What you will need:

  • caramel ice cream
  • gingerbread syrup
  • baileys
  • Kraken Spiced Rum (or spiced rum of your choice)
  • Whipped cream
  • Small gingerbread cookie to decorate (a Tiny Teddy could work too!)


  1. In a blender, add a scoop of caramel ice cream, 25ml gingerbread syrup, 45ml Baileys and 25ml spiced rum and blend.
  2. Pour it into a martini glass, add some whipped cream and a little gingerbread man and enjoy!
