EMMA AT PEARL HOTEL ANNOUNCES THE ADDITION OF TWO EXPERT CULINARY MINDS: PASTRY CHEF SOFÍA TEJEDA AND CHEF DE CUISINE AMARIS DIAZ

A luxury hotel housed in a 19th-century former brewery in the heart of San Antonio, Hotel Emma at Pearl welcomes pastry chef Sofía Tejeda and chef de cuisine Amaris Díaz to lead the property’s rich epicurean programs in its famous gastronomic destinations. The duo continues the legacy of Emma Koehler, former CEO of Pearl Brewery and the hotel’s namesake, as a female powerhouse to continue telling the property’s gastronomic story alongside new Executive Chef Jorge Luis Hernandez.

“I am incredibly honored to have Chef Tejeda and Chef Díaz join our growing team to further revolutionize and leave a deep mark on the Pearl culinary scene,” says Jorge Luis Hernández, Executive Chef at Hotel Emma. “Her talent, deep understanding of local flavors, and knowledge of the culture and traditions that make San Antonio so unique will combine to produce exceptional culinary offerings deeply rooted in the soul of the city.”

As Hotel Emma’s new Pastry Chef, Sofía Tejeda will elevate the hotel’s unique baking offerings by bringing her innate love of food and creativity while drawing inspiration from her roots in Mexico City. With prior experience at Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bakery in Yountville, California, Tejeda brings impressive skills as a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, San Antonio and nominated for “Outstanding Pastry Chef” by the James Beard Foundation in February 2022. She is San Antonio’s first and only pastry chef to be nominated in this category.

An established veteran of the San Antonio culinary scene, Chef Amaris Díaz takes on the role of Hotel Emma’s new chef de cuisine. Diaz previously served as Chef de Cuisine at Vespaio Restaurant in Austin and Sous Chef at The Moon’s Daughters in San Antonio at the Thompson Hotel. Her experience spans multiple divisions of culinary expertise, from home cooking to menu development to utilizing food waste, positioning her to continue to deliver exceptional epicurean experiences at Hotel Emma that are on par with the title of St. Antonio as UNESCO City of Gastronomy.

Together with Chef Díaz and Chef Tejeda, Executive Chef Jorge Luis Hernández leads a new culinary era for Hotel Emma. The way forward is imbued with cultural influences, culinary expertise, and a deep appreciation for the spirit and flavors of San Antonio with an understanding and knowledge that unites the three chefs through their common bond with the city.
