WHITE Lace Bakery is the place to be for Warrington’s best desserts, after the city center venue garnered one of our Best of 2022 awards.

The busy shop now serves up something a little tastier for hungry customers to enjoy at lunchtime.

With hot and cold sandwiches, wraps and paninis on the menu, it’s easy to see why there’s a line outside Golden Square six days a week.

Lindsay Albon and her husband Graham opened the small family business in Golden Square just over two years ago, having held a stall at the temporary Warrington Market since 2018.

Along with their eldest daughter, Lauren Paget, and head baker Nathan Ramsay, the couple have been so successful at the town center location that they opened another shop in Culcheth in August.

They were named Warrington’s Best Dessert in our Best of 2022 competition earlier this year thanks to their deliciousness.

There are cupcake and cookie dough creations, brownies and blondies, milkshakes and sundaes available daily, but you have to be quick: their delicious desserts regularly sell out.

Having mastered the sweet side of baking, White Lace Bakery now sells a host of savory snacks to enjoy every lunchtime.

The sweet chilli chicken with halloumi in a hot wrap is a bestseller, as are the triple decker sandwiches – chicken or avocado.

The special hot sandwich containing roast chicken, stuffing and pork in blankets, as well as roast potatoes and gravy, was popular with visitors and may make a comeback closer to Christmas.

All sandwiches, wraps and paninis are made to order between 10:30am and 3:00pm Monday through Saturday and they also offer a delivery service if you want your lunch delivered right to your door or to your desk at the job.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the family delivered hundreds of boxes of cakes each week to homes and businesses throughout Warrington, including the hospital and local police stations.

Lindsay said: “This delivery service was the brainchild of the business and we were delivering hundreds of boxes of cakes every week, as well as afternoon tea treats.

“We have customers who come in at the same time every week and ask for the same things, they are very loyal.

“It’s wonderful to think that so many people enjoy what we do.”

Lindsay, who is 40, was laid off from her high-pressure job in 2016 and decided to make wedding cakes, teaching herself with videos and tips online.

Before COVID-19, she made 90 wedding cakes a year, and in September she made her last “big day” cake, deciding to focus on store-bought and other special-occasion cakes.

In addition to sandwiches and other tasty lunch options and all the desserts available every day, White Lace Bakery also has a Warrington Christmas Market stall selling hot desserts: churros, cookie dough and American-style pancakes.
