Christmas Kringle, Nick Cave Cheesecake Bites Available for Christmas Desserts

Are you thinking outside the box for Christmas desserts?

Consider these two options, from two of the Midwest’s oldest purveyors of desserts.

If it’s kringle you’re after, you can head north to Wisconsin for old-world varieties baked fresh daily (taste 7,000 kringles each day) by O&H Danish Bakery (with locations in Racine, Sturtevant, and Oak Creek). Run by members of the Olesen family for the past 73 years, the bakery is famous for its old-fashioned, oval-shaped traditional kringles (36 puff pastry layers each), bread puddings, coffee cakes, pastries, and more.

This holiday season, O&H is offering a limited-edition “Christmas Kringle,” made with shortbread cookie filling and frosting with festive frosting and sprinkles. It costs $25.99 and is available for worldwide shipping at ohdanishbakery.com, if a road trip isn’t in the cards.

If driving to Wisconsin isn't possible, O&H Danish Bakery's limited-edition Christmas Cookie Kringle is available to order online through December 31.

“Christmas is our favorite time of year at O&H Danish Bakery, and as a family business, we love being able to share our family’s Christmas traditions with our customers,” said Eric Olesen, co-owner of the third-generation bakery. .

Closer to Chicago, Eli’s Cheesecake offers festive “edible art” for a very good cause.

In a collaboration with critically acclaimed Chicago artist Nick Cave, Eli’s now offers a set of 10 cheesecake “cuties” (little bites of chocolate-dipped cheesecake) inspired by Cave’s recent MCA exhibit, “Forothermore.”

Artist Nick Cave presents a sample of the mini cheesecakes he created in collaboration with Eli's Cheesecake.

Each “little one” was designed by Cave, with each little square having a different colour, flavor and symbol “mimicking the imagery used in the exhibit’s Spinner Forest”. Each design conveys a message of “Love and happiness equals peace,” according to the official announcement.

“This rainbow pack contains an extremely delicious collection of life principles handpicked and designed by me and created by the amazing team at Eli’s. … I view these principles as guides, as well as filters that warm and connect us,” Cave said in a statement.

All net proceeds from sales of the set will benefit the Facility Foundation, the multi-disciplinary creative center created by Cave and his partner Bob Faust to help support underrepresented artists with grants, exhibitions and commissions.

A 10-pack is $125 and includes overnight shipping. Available only online at elischeesecake.com.
