Check Out These Upcoming Tree Lightings In Washtenaw County

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI — As December approaches, there are a few cities in Washtenaw County preparing to kick off the holiday season with their annual tree lighting.

During these celebrations, cities sometimes enjoy hot drinks, sing Christmas carols, or receive a surprise visit from Santa Claus himself. Here is a list of upcoming tree lighting ceremonies taking place in Washtenaw County:


Depot Town will have its tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 pm on Sunday, November 27 at the tree in front of Sidetrack at 56 E Cross St. After the lighting, Santa and Mrs. Claus will head to the historic Ypsilanti Freighthouse on Plaza from Mercado 100 for complimentary cider, hot chocolate, cookies, candy canes and more. Sing songs with the Ypsilanti Community High School Choir, make snowflakes and enjoy hot chocolate at the Ypsilanti Christmas Tree Lighting from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, December 2. He’ll even be there to take some photos on his sleigh. For more information, click here.


Saline’s annual tree lighting will take place on Tuesday, November 29 at 6 pm across from KeyBank at 100 W. Michigan Ave. For more information on the tree lighting or the city’s annual holiday parade, visit the site Saline Area Chamber of Commerce website.


From 5 to 6:30 pm on Friday, December 2, Chelsea will hold its annual tree lighting ceremony at Pierce Park, 851 S. Main St. Santa will be there ready to kick off the holiday season and there will be free Jet’s. Lakehouse Bakery Pizza and Hot Chocolate while supplies last. Dexter Township:

There will be an annual tree lighting ceremony at the Hudson Mills Metropark Activity Center from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Saturday, December 3. The event will cost $5 per adult and $3 per child. Children under two years are free.

The event at 8801 N Territorial Rd. will include a Glow Walk where participants can wear glowing clothing as they walk and enjoy a fire and some hot cocoa. Those interested must pre-register for the event before 4:00 pm the day before the program here.

Superior Municipality:

Santa Claus will light the Superior Township tree beginning at 6 pm on Saturday, December 3 at Superior Township Hall, 3040 N. Prospect Rd. During this lighting there will be Christmas carols, hot chocolate, cookies and photos with Santa Claus.

Northfield Township:

Check out the tree lighting from 6:45 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, December 6 at the Northfield Township Area Library located at 125 Barker Rd. The tree lighting will feature Santa Claus, the band music from Whitmore Lake High School playing festive tunes and more. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.
