Aluminum foil can be used in an air fryer, but it should only go in the basket.

This is because an air fryer works by convection, using a fan to blow hot air over the element to heat the fryer.

If aluminum foil is placed on the bottom of the fryer, it could fly off and come in contact with the element and cause a fire.

Acidic foods react with the material, so should not be used to cook tomatoes, peppers, or citrus.

What materials can you use in an air fryer?

The general rule of thumb is that any material you can use in an oven, you can also use in a deep fryer.

Like aluminum foil, parchment paper can be used in an air fryer; You can even get different sized paper inserts for the perfect fit.

You can use any ovenproof dish or pan in the deep fryer, whether glass, ceramic, metal, or silicone.

Stainless steel pots and pans are also safe to use in an air fryer, as long as the extra parts, like the handles, aren’t made of materials that can melt like plastic.

Copper pots and cast iron skillets are also perfectly safe to use in an air fryer.

Another popular piece of cookware, the pizza stone is also safe to use in the deep fryer as long as it will fit.

What materials cannot be put in an air fryer

When cooking food, you cannot heat it in plastic containers, such as Tupperware or plastic takeout containers.

Just like in an oven, the hot air in the fryer would cause the containers to melt.

Wood also cannot be put in an air fryer, as it could be damaged and present a fire hazard.
