At first, I thought it was because of the turkey shortage, but I have been able to find turkeys in every grocery store I have visited here in East Texas. But I hear from more and more people who decide to cook something different for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. What are your plans, are you serving the traditional fiesta or mixing up the menu options this year?
Personally, I love the traditional Thanksgiving feast, but for my wife and I it doesn’t make sense to make a gigantic meal with just the two of us this year. We’ll still be making our favorite side dishes like dip and green bean casserole, but we’re not making turkey this year. We think about ham, which we’ve done in the past, but we’re both more excited about garnishes.
I saw something on social media this week talking about making brisket the new official meat of Thanksgiving, that’s something I would totally support!
Thanksgiving is about the people, not the food.
As I continue to get older, I’m reminded over and over again that it’s not about the food, it’s about the people you enjoy a meal with. You’re going to create memories celebrating a wonderful vacation with your loved ones, that’s really what it’s all about.
Take lots of photos this Thanksgiving
If you spend time with cousins or grandparents that you don’t see very often, I encourage you to take more photos with them this Thanksgiving. You will never be disappointed that you have taken a photo with your family members. Just remember that you can’t get this time back, so enjoy every second now. Happy Thanksgiving Day!

To prepare for a potential incident, always have your vet’s phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline that you can call at (888) 426-4435 as advice.
However, even with all these remedies, the best cure for food poisoning is to prevent it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has created a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
