Bill’s Party Store in Saginaw for sale after 60 years

SAGINAW, MI — An iconic Saginaw party store has been put up for sale after six decades in business.

Bill’s Party Store, located at 2422 Mackinaw St., and the house next door are listed together for a total asking price of $109,900.

Real estate agent Elaine Kingry of Century 21 Signature Realty said her phone has been “exploding” since the listing was published earlier this month.

“It’s like a Saginaw landmark,” he said. Everyone remembers Bill’s.

Bill Vlassis’s simple 526-square-foot party store at the corner of Mackinaw and Graham streets, half a mile from Arthur Hill High School, is open seven days a week and sells snacks, candy, groceries, frozen foods, cigarettes and bottled drinks. beverages

The fried pies are placed in white bakery boxes on the counter, the same counter that Vlassis and store manager Jim Foerster have stood behind almost every day for decades, serving their customers and neighbors.

“It’s time to go,” Vlassis said of his decision to sell the business, noting that he will turn 93 this month.

The longtime store owner said many of his customers were sorry to learn that Bill’s is for sale. Even former clients who moved out of the area called after hearing the news.

“We’ve been here a long time doing this,” said Foerster, who has worked at Bill’s Party Store for 55 years. “When you’re in a building that long, you meet a lot of people. That’s the way it is. It’s been a good, good run, but hey, there comes a time.”

Kingry said there is a potential buyer and that Vlassis intends to keep the store open until the sale is final.

“There are good things to come,” he said.

Foerster wanted to thank Bill’s loyal customers for their many years of patronage.

“We have had a lucky streak for many years,” he said. “(Bill and I) would like to thank everyone for giving us all that support.”

“I will miss them,” Vlassis said.

“We both will,” Foerster added.
