The content of the essay should have the basic parts: the introduction, body and conclusion (in simpler sense, the beginning, middle and end). Unless instructed, a thesis statement should end the beginning of the essay. The thesis statement is essential for college essays. It is a declaration of what the essay is all about. As an example: ”Since the increase of population in Brooklyn, more people in New York are complaining of overcrowding in the subway than ever before.” To edit the thesis statement, you should check its consistency with the over-all discussion in the essay and it should have appropriate and accurate citations.
The first stage is to formulate your topic clearly in your own mind, so that you understand the question which your essay sets out to answer. You can only fully research the issues involved if you have a complete understanding of the subject. Next, write a detailed outline of your essay, filling out its structure as you go, making sure that no important ideas have been omitted. Then it is time for the first draft.
Most of the time the topic of this kind of essay is of a personal nature; You may be asked to write about a life-changing event that has occurred in your life, or maybe just a time period in your life such as your senior year in high school. Narrative essays are your chance to write about something that has happened to you or to someone in your life. How the topic affected you will play a big part in how you will write your essay. The more personal the event or issue is, the better details and characteristics you can use when writing your essay.
If more than three persons consulted say that the essay lacks color and life, or if the essay is not coherent and has no unity, then something must be very wrong with it. Don‘t be offended by the criticisms received for they are only constructive ones and it will also help improve the essay. There‘s a tendency that a person can‘t see errors in one‘s own writings. Therefore, it is important to let others read and critique one‘s work. In fact, their comments and criticisms may be the very same comments and things that the admission officers will take note of as well.
The admission essay should have a strong logical approach and a coherent structure that clearly articulates your ideas. The language of the essay should be simple and clear and be successful in conveying the ideas without leading to any ambiguity. The excessive use of words that are not used in regular communication will not necessarily impress the reader, so be careful if you decide to include these. The essay should be clear and leave out unnecessary adjectives as these can make it sound too loose. Overall, your essay should be informative and interesting whilst also being concise.
It is very important to use a first person narrative while writing the admission essay and include active words that demonstrate the qualities and abilities that you will bring to the course. However, at the same time you should remember not to go overboard, or it may come across as false. Also don‘t make the essay too long as that will potentially lose the interest of the reader. One or two pages are likely to be sufficient but adhere to the published admission essay writing guidelines. It is very important to keep your readers in mind while you are writing the essay. Check that your objective is clear and that your essay reveals the purpose and enthusiasm that you have for your chosen field of study.
Charles Lamb is the perfector of the Literary type of essay-- subjective, literary and personal. Leigh Hunt in his Indicator revived the manner, quiet narrative and the style of Steele. Jeffrey in the Edinburgh Review and Hazlitt in his Table Talk took to literary criticism and raised the standard of literary taste. But Hazlitt has to much bitterness to be affable; De Quincey is often too imaginative in his conceptions and florid in his style. But Lamb is critical, imaginative and romantic. The central subject matter of the Essays of Elia is Lamb himself-Lamb‘s mind re-acting to his studies and environments-to life itself. This another interesting attribute to English essay writing.
